Florida’s Convenience Store Security Act (§812.174, F.S.) requires every licensed convenience store to maintain an approved robbery deterrence and safety training program for employees. DBPR’s new rule (61A-8.002) locks in the details: operators must now submit their training curriculum on a new Form ABT-6081, pay a $100 registration fee per store, and renew approval every two years.

Inspectors will begin checking for proof that your training is DBPR-approved and on file.

What this means for you: if your stores aren’t covered by a DBPR-approved program, you can face civil fines up to $5,000 per violation, per location and even risk license action. The form is expected to be released soon, which means enforcement is next.

You need to train employees now using an approved program, retain proof of completion, and be ready to file the new form and fee as soon as it drops. Waiting until inspectors show up is a gamble with thousands of dollars and your alcohol license on the line.
